The winds didn't tend to kick up until late in the afternoon, so before that happened you could watch the Giants under a warm sunny sky, take off your shirt and have a cold beer. This video was made on August 23, 1992. The Giants were going nowhere that year in the National League West, but we all worried that they were going to Tampa Bay at the end of the year. It looked like the end of the line for the San Francisco Giants, so I wanted to get in at least one more game before they deserted the City by the Bay. They played the excellent Pittsburgh Pirates that day, who were on their way to a National League Eastern Division title. The star of that team was Barry Bonds. Although the Pirates were a better team, Giant pitcher Bud Black pitched a terrific game, and with help from relief pitcher Rod Beck got the win in a 5-2 game. As it turned out, the Giants didn't go to Tampa Bay after all. Ironically, it was the owner of the much-hated Los Angeles Dodgers who prevented that from happening. He helped block the sale of the team, leading to new buyers emerging who were committed to keeping the Giants in San Francisco. The following season, the Giants had Barry Bonds and the team had its best year ever in San Francisco, finishing with 103 victories. Incredibly, it wasn't enough to make the playoffs! It is legendary for its extreme danger and in 1995 the Inter-American Development Bank christened it as the "world's most dangerous road". One estimate is that 200-300 travelers were killed yearly along the road. The road includes crosses marking many of the spots where vehicles have fallen. The road was built in the 1930s during the Chaco War by Paraguayan prisoners. It is one of the few routes that connects the Amazon rainforest region of northern Bolivia, or Yungas, to its capital city. Upon leaving La Paz, the road first ascends to around 5 km[dubious discuss], before descending to 330 m (1079 ft)[dubious discuss], transiting quickly from cool Altiplano terrain to rainforest as it winds through very steep hillsides and atop cliffs. Because of the extreme dropoffs of at least 600 meters (1969 ft), single-lane width — most of the road no wider than 3.2 meters (10.5 ft) — and lack of guard rails, the road is extremely dangerous. Video clips at the beginning and end here show this at 0038 on Wednesday, 04.06.2008, and at 0150 on Bank Holiday Monday, 26.05.2008. This is a very noisy process with the most noise not included in these videos since I began filming each one after the auto was on the flat bed truck. Unbelievably, on Bank Holiday Monday, 26.05.2008, some nine days ago this activity started just after midnight and went on for several hours until at least 0300 and possibly 0400. There was much shouting from people outside when this began on that date and as late as almost 0300. The video clip here shows this in the middle at 0150 in the morning. My question is why hasn't this been done in the day or evenings since this very loud disturbance after midnight which has gone on for hours most definitely disrupts people's sleep and especially that of the children. Imagine being subjected to this all night on a Bank Holiday Monday. It becomes a major contributor to antisocial behaviour especially when it is seen that the Council is carrying out excessively loud car removals after midnight for hours. The story follows Takashi Komuro, one of the students who survived in the initial outbreak.
